Inside Jessica Gomes’ Caulfield North Apartment

When international model Jessica Gomes was searching for an apartment in her adopted city of Melbourne, she had a beautifully simple brief.

“Melbourne is chic, and I wanted a chic apartment,” she says.

For the former face of David Jones, the ground-floor apartment in Caulfield North, with a private terrace and romantic fireplace, was as convenient as it was stylish.

“I wanted something safe and easy, where I could hang up my hat after a big long trip, get a coffee and a breakfast close by, go for a walk in Elwood near the beach, and visit friends,” she says. “It was a very practical decision in that way, and I've just always found the Melbourne market to be great. I've always been looking at properties, and this one felt really boutique.

“And I just love that it's quite soulful.”

The time has come for Gomes to sell the two-bedroom pad, in a block of only 16 residences, which she bought off the plan four years ago. She has relocated to the Byron Bay hinterland, where many fashion entrepreneurs and creatives are now based, and divides her time between Australia and Los Angeles.

Gomes was born in Perth and grew up in Sydney, but was frequently in Melbourne for work when she decided to buy in vibrant Caulfield North. The inner-southeast suburb hums with popular cafes like Carter Lovett, and intimate neighbourhood wine bars, just a ten minute drive to Elwood and St Kilda. It quickly felt like home. “The community here is so beautiful,” Gomes says. “It’s full of families and it’s so quiet.”

The peaceful apartment also allowed her to enjoy some rare downtime. 

“I would usually sit out on the patio to have my morning cup of coffee, and I would also meditate and read out there, soaking in the sun and the fresh air,” she says. “And then at night I loved cosying up by the fire, watching a movie. They were my favourite parts of spending time there.”

Gomes hopes prospective buyers are captured by the apartment's calm feeling, and appreciate its high ceilings, terrace outlook and elegant finishes.

“I hope they can just feel my energy and the tranquility, and notice the beautiful features that I’ve chosen - like the fireplace, the herringbone floors, and the open-plan kitchen,” she says. “I just love that kitchen so much - the marble and brass tapware. The finishes are incredible.”

“The apartment is fresh, and still quite brand new. It is a clean slate for anyone to turn into their own.”
